Good Newses From Bangladesh

Bangladesh Shipbuilding industry now a promising sector

The shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh is now becoming a promising sector as it has signed several contracts with Danish investors to build multipurpose vessels. On at least two instances, Danish shipping interests recently have placed substantial orders with Bangladeshi shipyards. Ananda Shipyard in Meghna Ghat and CS and Partnere A/S, a Danish ship consortium, have signed a agreement to build a ship, said a press release.

The first ship – a 2,900 DWT multi-purpose vessel currently under construction at Ananda Shipyard and will be delivered in early 2008 – is the first of a series of up to 14 ships ordered by the Danish investors. The second order landed by a Bangladeshi shipyard was when Western Marine in Chittagong signed a contract to build up to 5 multipurpose vessels (4,100 DWT) to be delivered to a Danish ship consortium. ‘The two orders have positioned these shipyards as serious players in the international shipbuilding industry in strong competition with Chinese and Vietnamese shipbuilders, said Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Einar Hebogard Jensen. ‘In order to live up to the highest international standards to design ship and to obtain international accreditation from bureaus such as “Germanisher Lloyd” and “Norske Veritas” it will be important for the shipyards to be able to import various fittings and components necessary for the ships to reach an international standard,’ Einar commented. “To live up to export requirements, it will be essential that a mechanism can be introduced for facilitating an easy clearance of such fittings and components when imported. A “Green Channel” like in the textile industry could probably provide necessary flexibility for the involved parties,” the ambassador said.

The Ambassador continues: “To our knowledge, Ananda Shipyard and Western Marine are breaking new grounds in Bangladesh in their endeavours to succeed in these projects. The orders obtained will be instrumental in bringing Bangladesh into the picture as a serious player for building ships for the international shipping market. He also added that a number of potential ship owners are watching closely the development of the Ananda Shipyard and Western Marine projects.“If these assignments prove successful, the ship building industry in Bangladesh will play a very important role in future competition against ship building nations like Vietnam and China,’ the diplomat mentioned. He also claimed that successful shipbuilding ventures will have a tremendous positive impact on job generation, technology transfer and export revenues, and help Bangladesh to create another ‘thrust’ sector like export-oriented readymade garments and textiles and IT.

  2. It’s about time Bangladesh rise above politics and jump on the wagon of SHIPBUILDING.
With INDIA and VIETNAM fast expanding their SHIPBUILDING industry , so must Bangladesh move forward. However it needs technical assistance to move forward and succeed. The Koike Sanso Kogyo group of companies have helped many shipyards in the world to optimise their production capacity.
It had recently set up Sales & Service offices in INDIA and VIETNAM to better service the market. It is now focusing on the Bangladesh shipbuilding industries and is looking for suitable candidates for country marketing managers. It hopes to help the industry move forward at an accelerated speed.

  11. This is you that we need! We need scholars like you, who love Bangladesh. Without that, this ship building will ended up nothing better than a low paid labour market, in stead of a booming industry.

Please have a look at recent past… we have invested so much of our own on technology and we have literally harvested nothing. Simply nothing! There are more that thousands computers in all over Bangladesh used as simple typing machine and a brilliant one is for watching video or playing video game. Most of the people jingle around the windows menu and tool bar thats all!

If you kindly look at the website from our countries, it looks horrible! Did you not use the same hi tech computers? People are constantly upgrading their computing box… what is the lacking? Do we not claim that we have intelligence? Please have a look at web sites from developed countries…. what is the thing that they have, we dont?

Yes! We need that thing to use in the booming business! Other wise this will also end up with some thing like IT industry in Bangladesh, having only big mouth, and false self pride!

In east and west there are so many countries those are beautiful and Bangladesh is not the best, not at all!

Who cares.. we will work for it… we will make it better..

We need you, who will never have a false self pride, and considering the really work as required.

With the hope of a better Bangladesh…

    LONG LIVE BANGLADESH!

  12. I am Tanvir. I completed MBA , BBA in Finance Department from Dhaka University . After my graduation ,i have joined in a leading shipbuilding company in Project Finance & General Accounts department.

From the beginning , i have a goal that is, i would start my career in a local company so that i can build it a Bangladeshi MNC in future.

What i can say , i am lucky by the mercy of Allah because i have got an opportunity to work in the shipbuilding sector which has a huge potential to become MNC in future.

After the whole day of work, when i go to bed, i just think , yes i have done something for Bangladesh economy although work pressure was too high today , particularly every day.

If all things are ok , hopefully this sector will bring more good news for you .

Thank you very much for your positive discussion on the Bangladesh Shipbuilding issue.
